2014 - The Hobbit III

The Battle Of Five Armies.

For a collection of all the miniature sheets released with this issue,

'The Hobbit: The Battle Of Five Armies' brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. To commemorate the final film in this thrilling trilogy, New Zealand Post has created official stamps and legal tender coins from Middle-earth.
The writers of this blog first considered waiting until we had seen the movie before publishing a post on it but recently we decided to release this simple view of the stamps with further details and items being added later.

     80c – Smaug.                                                             $1.40 – Bilbo Baggins.

Smaug the Dragon.
Finally we get to see my favourite character from the Hobbit movies on his own stamp. A giant fire-breathing dragon who is as psychotic as he is greedy, Smaug’s vicious attack on Erebor shattered the Dwarf Kingdom and sent Thorin Oakenshield and his people into exile. In the Company of Dwarves’ attempt to reclaim the treasure, they have unleashed the full weight of Smaug’s fury on the nearby city of Lake-town.
Bilbo Baggins.
Bilbo Baggins survived his harrowing adventures through the perilous Mirkwood Forest and his death defying encounter with the fearsome Dragon Smaug. But Bilbo has many more tough decisions ahead if he is to return to the Shire and the home that he loves.
$2.00 – Gandalf.

Gandalf.
With his worst fears confirmed, Gandalf the Grey finds himself prisoner of the Necromancer. Separated from the Company of Thorin Oakenshield, Gandalf must escape and travel to the slopes of the Lonely Mountain if they are to stand a chance against evil in the Battle of the Five Armies.

$2.10 – Thranduil.

Thranduil.
Father to Legolas Greenleaf, Thranduil is a legendary fighter. King of the Woodland Realm, he rules over the northern lands of Mirkwood. An ancient and bitter feud has left him with little love for the race of Dwarves.

$2.50 – Bard the Bowman.                                                 $3.00 – Tauriel.

Bard the Bowman.
Bilbo discovers Bard to be a kind and decent man, protecting the poor folk from the greed and tyranny of The Master of Lake-town, though his skills as a bowman suggest he is not all that he seems. Bard, more than most, has reason to fear what will happen if the Dwarves should wake Smaug.
Tauriel.
A Silvan elf, this Daughter of Mirkwood is as deadly as she is beautiful. A favourite of King Thranduil and Captain of the Woodland Guard, Tauriel’s job is to follow the orders of the King without question.

$2.50 – Bag End.

The Green Door of Bag End.
This innovative stamp features the iconic door to Bag End in the Shire, home of Hobbit Bilbo Baggins and his nephew Frodo Baggins, protagonist of 'The Lord of the Rings' motion picture trilogy. The door on the stamp is unique – in that it has been created using actual wood from the Hobbiton™ party tree, which featured prominently in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' at Bilbo Baggins’ eleventy-first birthday party. The party tree wood has been ground down to a fine powder and affixed to the door image on the stamp.
